Brainstorming
We started out organizing our ideas on a white board. We wanted to focus on supporting workouts without emphasizing the weight-loss or calorie aspect. Our user research helped us identify design opportunities in this space. Users generally feel that they don't exercise enough, and that they don't have enough time to work out, so we saw the opportunity to motivate users to work out by providing timed sessions that can accommodate their schedules. Users also like working out with friends, but they often don't due to scheduling conflicts. We therefore saw the opportunity to facilitate remote group workouts toward a common goal. Most users reported that they like to exercise because it is enjoyable. This emphasizes our initial idea that instead of focusing on the weight-loss aspect of working out, we should create engaging workouts that are motivating on their own behalf. Users also reported that they find it hard to track their progress, so that we decided to offer progress tracking to further encourage exercise. Finally, users reported that competition is motivating, yielding a design opportunity for us to integrate competitive aspects to motivate users to work out.
