User Research
Process
Initially we conducted one interview as well as a survey which received 18 responses. Based on our findings, namely that people
like working out with others but frequently have difficulties scheduling this, and the additional desire to differentiate our
service from the many existing exercise tracking solutions, we decided to refocus on supporting and motivating people to work out
together across gaps of distance and time.
With our new focus, we conducted two additional in-depth user interviews. From these results, as well as our earlier and more general
user research related to exercise, we extracted a number of insights centered around the social and motivational aspects of exercise.
Some of the insights we gained from our research include the more social nature of running outdoors as opposed to on a treadmill, the
relatively low number of people who currently track their exercise, and the large amount of people (83% of survey respondents) who say
they would like to exercise more than they do.
